Peoples Global Action ispired newsletter #4

Hello everybody! This is the 4th issue of the PGA inspired newsletter!

You can download the file for reading from here:

http://aresistance.net/data/pga4_read.pdf and the file for printing from here: http://aresistance.net/data/pga4_print.pdf

At the PGA-conference in Dijon a need for a non-digital communication-tool was mentioned. There was an idea to refresh a printed newsletter. We would like to continue the project with this call. Our aim is to continue using this newsletter as forum of debates, different project, actions and struggles of collectives, related to PGA. The newsletter does not speak in the name of the network, but is inspired by PGA.

Therefore it will continue to be an autonomous project with subjective views, but can only work through the participation of various collectives and single persons in the network. This project should be an open process and switching workgroups take the responsibility for each issue.

The group, working on the next issue, announces their idea for next issue and sets a deadline for articles (both on the pga-process list). After layouting and publishing it’s also helpful, if the workgroup cares for skill-sharing with the next group (which means to introduce in the tools, used for the newsletter). The final printing and distribution is like the creation of article in the responsibility of all the collectives and single persons in the network. To make the next newsletter a better instrument of information and perhaps more open to global struggles, please send articles

5th Peoples' Global Action Gathering in Europe – Athens 20th / 27th of August

http://pgaconference.org

balkans.puscii.nl

PGA - People's Global Action - started in 1998, it has been a tool and a
diffuse structure coordinating groups and people sharing common struggles
and practices, in accordance with various anticapitalist and
anti-authoritarian principles (see the hallmarks). PGA initiated the
Intercontinental caravan in 1999, as well as international action days of
actions against the G8, the WTO, the World Bank, the IMF... In Seattle,
Genoa, Prague, and in a number of less popular events, PGA was a driving
force behind numerous actions and reflections. At the convergence of
international initiatives and local struggles, groups close to the PGA are
now looking for new drives to challenge stagnation.

In Europe, groups who identify with the PGA principles meet about once
every two years, through the initiative of a "convenor" collective. Since
1998, these conferences have been the opportunity for several days of
exchanging practices and knowledge, and of establishing bonds, which allow
us to be better organized in common actions.

The 5th gathering of Peoples Global Action in Europe this time will take
place in Greece.
A responsibility of organizing and coordinating the discussion that opened
in the last meetings of PGA europe has taken by a decentralized network of
activists and collectives in Balkans. Thats exactly and the essential
advantage of this initiative. The convenor is not a local collective like
other conferences in the past but a vital balkan decentralized network.
On the preparation all of these months several questions , problems as
well as ideas for taking action are allready mentioned by all of us who
involve with a conference here!!! Again in the Balkan region!
We would like to open a long discussion about local activism in
combination with a global perspective. In other words we want to discuss
about the future of the PGA network and its process as well as the various
projects , topics and ideas for action.
As a reference example : the following topics that we are allready working
or we want to invite people to open meeting spaces during the PGA
conference.

Autonomous spaces and squating , patriarchy , gender , radical feminism ,
anti repression , anti militarism , biotechnology , environmental
struggles , indigenous spaces , antiglobalization , G8 , DIY activities
and sharing skills , fanzines , infoshops , PGA infopoints , land and
autonomy , eco communities , digital struggles and autonomous servers ,
indymedia tools , precarity and flexibility , radical theory , productive
networking , local alternatives , activism , other , be continued

if you wanna take part on the meeting we need the following information
from you !! please send us as soon as possible at con2008@no-log.org ..
have it in mind that our dynamic is not the best one and we need a lot of
international support and definitely to know how many people are planning
to join the meeting .. you need also sleeping bags and probably a tent ..

PGA Hallmarks

1. A very clear rejection of capitalism, imperialism and feudalism; all
trade agreements, institutions and governments that promote destructive
globalisation.

2. We reject all forms and systems of domination and discrimination
including, but not limited to, patriarchy, racism and religious
fundamentalism of all creeds. We embrace the full dignity of all human
beings.

3. A confrontational attitude, since we do not think that lobbying can
have a major impact in such biased and undemocratic organisations, in
which transnational capital is the only real policy-maker.

4. A call to direct action and civil disobedience, support for social
movements' struggles, advocating forms of resistance which maximize
respect for life and oppressed peoples' rights, as well as the
construction of local alternatives to global capitalism.

5. An organisational philosophy based on decentralisation and autonomy.
PGA is a tool for coordination, not an organization. PGA has no members
and does not have and will not have a juridical personnality. Nor
organisation or person represents PGA

International meeting for squats and autonomous spaces

Interspace

International meeting for squats and autonomous spaces

Kesselberg, Berlin 24th - 26th May 2008

International meeting for autonomous spaces - why?

Following on from the last international squat and autonomous spaces victories: to redraw the battle lines. To achieve durable exchange and solidarity on an international level.

The time

The meeting will last three days: from Saturday May 24th till Monday 26th. We invite everybody to arrive on Friday during the day or in the evening.

For those who can stay a bit longer, the Berlin free spaces action days are taking place from the 30th May to the 2nd June (wba.blogsport.de).

Agenda

We of course have some ideas and have included the suggestions already made in Dijon, but the agenda is open and in the end determined by the people who come. If you have ideas, wishes or if you want to do a workshop, send us an email to intersquatberlin@riseup.net

Proposed topics so far:

* How do we deal with repression?
* What new strategies are there to create and invent squats and autonomous spaces?
* How does paying rent or buying houses influence the reality of autonomous spaces?
* What are free spaces and why are they important?
* How do autonomous spaces generate, maintain and involve themselves in broader social struggles?

And of course there will be need to speak about the April Action Days, to evaluate the actions and the networking process and to possibly further develop the infrastructure created in Dijon.

The place

The meeting is taking place at Kesselberg, an autonomous/project space in the countryside just outside Berlin. There is space at Kesselberg for about 100 people to sleep (but please bring tents if you have one), as well as several rooms for plenaries and workshops. The place is surrounded by woods and there is a lot of space for taking breaks or meeting outside if the weather is good.

Leave your dogs at home if possible. If you do bring them please keep them close to you at any time, as there are wild animals in the woods surrounding Kesselberg and already a bunch of dogs living there.

The site is also chemical free. The people at Kesselberg have said they can provide soap, but if you bring your own, make sure it is completely chemical free.

How to get there from Berlin:

Public transport: The nearest train station is Erkner. Just take the S3 train, direction Erkner. This is a local Berlin train line and tickets cost about 3 euros.

From Erkner station we can either pick you up if you let us know when you're arriving, or you can take the bus. The bus is Line 428, direction Ziegenhals, until the stop 'Neu Zittau, Kesselberg'. The entrance to the Kesselberg land is next to the bus stop. Alternatively, it takes about 20 mins to cycle there from Erkner.

With a car: Kesselberg is about 7km south of Erkner, between Neu Zittau and Wernsdorf. Driving from the Berliner Ring, either take the Erkner exit via Neu Zittau, or the exit Niederlehme via Wernsdorf , direction New Zittau. For a map see www.kesselberg.info/weg.html

There is limited parking space at Kesselberg, so it would be helpful to let us know if you are coming by car or wanting to park a live-in vehicle on site for the duration of the meeting.

So that we can prepare enough space, organise enough food etc., we need to get an idea of how many people to expect, so please let us know you are coming. Likewise if you need a place to stay in Berlin just before or after the meeting, please email us at: intersquatberlin@riseup.net

Keep an eye on the blog for up to date info: http://interspace.blogsport.de/ See you in May!

Massive Repression during the NATO Summit in Romania

Massive Repression during the NATO Summit in Romania

One day before the start of the Nato summit in Bucharest the situation gets worse.
Hourly alternative looking people are detained by the police for no reason.
Afterwards the police construct absurd offence, for example carrying a pocketknife
amounting to possession a weapon. Every person coming to or leaving the convergence
center is in danger of getting detained (some simply for walking to a nearby shop).
The detained are interrogated, photographed and fingerprinted in police stations,
and held for up to 24 hours.
At the Romanian border several groups of activists, as well as others, have been
denied entry into the country.

The most involved Romanian activists around the country have at this point been
visited or called by either the local police or SRI (Romanian information service)
to be warned against participating in any anti-nato protests or to have their
families intimidated.

27000 police officers, military, snipers and secret police are occupying the city.
The security alert code yellow has been announced, meaning that all demonstrations
are forbidden in the whole city amongst other restrictive laws.

In the face of this repression the actions of the few activists present are severely
limited. Therefore we urgently need your solidarity. Please make solidarity actions
in your cities.
